Himalayan Salt Room

About the Salt Room

Halo Therapy AKA the Salt Room/Himalayan Salt Cave is a DRUG FREE, noninvasive treatment that involves breathing in air with tiny salt particles to improve your breathing. This room has a machine called a halo generator, to which salt is added. The equipment breaks down the salt into tiny particles that circulate in the room. This experience is designed to mimic being in a natural salt cave while enjoying the comfort of our lounge chairs.

Himalayan salt contains 84 natural elements and minerals that are already found in your body. It's minerals are microscopic or ionic. Their size enables them to be easily absorbed by cells. Himalayan salt has anti-microbial, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial properties.

Halotherapy History

Eastern Europe began to see it's therapeutic purposes about 200 years ago when salt miners in Poland found a more modern version of what’s now halotherapy. Despite working in mines all day, the Polish miners didn’t have any respiratory conditions and were unusually healthy.

Research shows that the salty air the miners breathed helped keep their lungs free from infection and allergies. Over time, Eastern European salt mines or caves became popular tourist destinations. People from all over the world visited to inhale the salty air and ease their lung problems.

Sessions can help relieve & soothe symptoms of many respiratory conditions including...

Allergies, Asthma, Chronic ENT (ear, nose, and throat), Colds, COPD, Cystic Fibrosis, Pulmonary Fibrosis, Sinusitis, Emphysema and Pneumonia, Chronic Bronchitis, Chronic Sinusitis, Sleep Apnea, Snoring, Wheezing, Laryngitis (Pharyngitis), Sore Throat, Tonsillitis, Hay Fever, Rhinitis, Sinus Inflammation, Sinusitis, and Smoker’s Cough.

How does Salt Therapy work?

The primary mechanism of action in Halotherapy is the dry aerosol of salt, that has a particle size of 1-5 microns, and a negative electrical charge. The dry salt aerosol is blown into the salt room. In addition, the HIMALAYAN walls and the floor of the salt room are covered with salt. The salt room provides a negative ion environment (like the seashore), which contributes to a feeling of well being and promotes STRESS reduction.

The particles of salt are inhaled and travel into the deepest parts of the lungs and sinuses. The inhalation of the salt particles helps to reduce inflammation in the airways, opens constricted airways, and increases the clearance of mucous. Between each session and before sessions begin- the room is completely ventilated for 15  minutes to remove bacteria, germs, and virus from the air.

What to expect?

A typical salt therapy session lasts for 45 minutes. You will be asked to wear our disposable socks. The therapy involves sitting in the salt room in a comfortable, ergonomic yoga lounge chaise. The lights will dim...you are encouraged bring your own headset to listen your own music to comfort you. The room temperature and humidity is maintained at a comfortable level. Most people like to close their eyes, and some will fall asleep or meditate. A change in lighting will alert you that the treatment is over. Some people will have a slight salt taste similar to being by the ocean. Others may experience a mild throat tickle, which can be easily treated by sipping warm water after the session.

Most people will experience increased mucous production. This will present itself in the form of a runny nose or a productive cough after the session. This is the body’s natural mechanism for elimination of toxins, pollens, and viruses. If you have ever smoked in the past, you may experience a period of cough and mucous production as your body naturally clears the lungs of residual toxins. Most asthmatics will also experience an initial period of increased mucous production and cough as the body decreases inflammation, opens airways, and expels the stagnant.

How many treatments do you need?

Every experience is different, and it depends on the type and severity of your condition. Based on the research, we would recommend a course of 12-15 treatments, preferably within 4-8 weeks. You may feel some improvement after a single session, but a series of treatments is required to achieve long-term results. For mild conditions, 6-8 treatments may be enough. Some people use treatments as a preventative measure to avoid the common cold, and other respiratory viruses.

Are there any contraindications?

Treatment should be avoided during the acute phase of any illness, including the following: infections accompanied by fever, acute active tuberculosis, cardiac insufficiency, COPD in the third stage, bleeding, spitting of blood, alcohol or drug intoxication, unstable or uncontrolled hypertension, and acute stages of respiratory diseases. Salt therapy may produce slight skin irritation on some individuals that will disappear after a few sessions.
